Sirach 29:11
Opening Hymn: “Who Can Measure Heaven and Earth?”
Who can measure heav’n and earth God was present at their birth
Who can number seeds or sand? Every grain is in his hands
Through creation’s countless days, Ev’ry dawn sings out his praise
Who can tell what wisdom brings First of all created things
One alone is truly wise, Hidden from our earthbound eyes
Knowledge lies in him alone-God the Lord upon his throne.
Wisdom in his plan he laid, Planted her in all he made
Granted her to humankind, Sowed her truth in ev’ry mind
But with richest wisdom bless, Those who love him first and best
Wisdom gives the surest wealth, Bring her children life and health
Teaches us to fear the Lord, Marks a universe restored
Heav’n earth she will outlast-Happy those who hold her fast!
Closing Hymn: Now Thank We All Our God
Now Thank we all our God with hearts and hands and voices
Who wondrous things has done in whom this world rejoices
Who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love and still is ours today.
O may this gracious God through all our life be near us
With ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us,
Preserve us in His grace and guide us in distress
And free us from all sin till heaven we possess.
All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given
The Son and Him who reigns with them in highest heaven;
The One eternal God whom earth and heaven adore
For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.
Theme: God and Money
The clever financiers of who we read in our newspapers are so worldly-wise that they can readily make millions of dollars for themselves by using other people’s money. Today, Jesus bids us to be heavenly-wise and make an eternal home for ourselves by using His superabundant love and grace.
We learn a lot from our readings if look closely to what is being read during today’s
As Christians, we have to ask ourselves if an economic system motivated largely by personal or national interest is in accord with the Gospel. The steward in today’s parable is a good instance of the unscrupulous businessman. It is his resourcefulness that Jesus commends, not his dishonest methods of ensuring his economic future. Single minded dedication to money making causes a person to neglect the quest for more genuine riches, such as the desire for truth, openness to God, the growth of one’s relations.
Jesus’ warning is not directed merely to a handful of millionaires but to all; the worship of money can be found universally in even those who are poor-both in name and by spirit. In fact this type of worship breaks the very first commandment given to us. May we not fall into that path as we walk in our pilgrimage towards salvation. Pray to our heavenly Father to guide us to the true treasure which awaits us in the future.
